Richard Lamballe started his career at at leading consumer PR agency Freud Communications in 1995 working on the original brand team clients such as BT, Pizza Hut, Pepsi, Holsten Pils, UCI Cinemas, Planet Hollywood, Sega, Segaworld and Ministry of Sound as well as projects for Whyte & Mackay, Lynx and the media management at numerous high profile premieres and events.
In 1997 he joined EM at HHCL and Partners (Campaign’s Agency of the Decade 2000) as a Director, where he was responsible for the launch of Go in the UK and Europe, Egg, Just, and the successful running of the Bacardi Martini drinks portfolio, Chevron Texaco, u>direct, Thomson Holidays, ITV, AA, Pearl Assurance, O’Neill’s and Po Na Na plc accounts. He has also carried out project work for Arsenal FC and Yahoo!
In 2001 he led an MBO of the HHCL Environment Marketing division to create and build his own independent company Killa Communications, backed by Chime plc. Clients included Sky, ITV, FIFA, O2, Habitat, Oxfam’s Make Trade Fair, Georgia Pacific, Ocado, Bacardi Brown Foreman, Crazy Jacks, Community Foods, Benjys, Unilever. The company was successfully merged into a wholly owned Chime PR agency in early 2006.
In 2008 Richard returned to the agency world with the launch of Smith & Monger Specialist PR and Marketing Consultants, a new type of agency with a proposition based on his insights into the new emerging needs of clients in a fast changing landscape. He saw that generic ‘big agency’ PR expertise was no longer appropriate to serve the specialist needs of a specific client’s sector. Specialism required to engage both media and consumers with deep knowledge and passion for a particular product due to the proliferation of digital channels, and depth of conversations required in social media.
He set about identifying and expanding a team of senior specialists and a broader network of talent, with the knowledge and relationships in their chosen field to enable them to put their experience, expertise and passion to work for agency clients under his strategic and creative direction. In the 6 years since launch, this central business philosophy has outgrown and nurtured capabilities for clients beyond just PR and Marketing Communications. This gives Smith & Monger a very unique and competitive proposition as a business partner, valued advisor and catalyst for solutions to commercial problems.
Richard is a commercial creative, a businessman and an entrepreneur with an extensive network of personal contacts across the media and the wider business community. At Smith & Monger he leads the strategic and creative development and execution of campaigns and initiatives on a day to day basis with a focus on clear measureable results.
A passionate advocate of ‘joined up thinking’ amongst marketing disciplines and creativity in business in general, he places a premium on game changing ideas and business propositions, not ‘more of the same’, with a ruthless focus on how they can save money, save time, and impact the bottom line.

In 2013 he developed and launched www.wakemanroad.co.uk London’s first artisan private members health and wellbeing space with co-founder and fellow entrepreneur Emma Sinclair. It is a very special place, ‘Where Good Things Happen.”
